Laravel 13.36.0 concentrates on queue workers, Redis failover and lost locks

Laravel published framework v13.36.0 on 13 October 2026. The changelog holds about fifty merged pull requests, and the largest group by far concerns queues: how workers start, stop, report and hold connections.

Queue workers. The default queue configuration gains a background connection (#61917), and workers can now flush sticky connections between jobs (#61915). The --json output of queue:work now includes the connection in its paused, resumed and stop events (#61896, #61858). Two fixes change behaviour in error paths: the worker no longer calls its "killback" twice (#61940), and the exit code for a timed-out worker is now actually reachable (#61623, backported to 12.x).

Locks and transactions. Unique queued listeners could keep their lock when the surrounding transaction was rolled back; #61974 releases it. A related fix stops scheduled callbacks from re-throwing an exception from a previous run on later runs (#61973), and queued mailables now honour DeleteWhenMissingModels and FailOnTimeout (#61899). Broadcasting recognises UniqueFor attributes on events (#61981).

Redis and database connections. When no Redis cluster node is reachable, the phpredis client is rebuilt instead of being reused (#61911), and the persistent socket is released before that happens (#61919). Notifications pushed to a Redis queue are now batched (#61965). On the database side, PgBouncer SSL EOF failover errors are recognised as lost connections (#61918), recursive reconnects during a reconnect are prevented (#61995), and MySqlConnection gains IsVitess() and olap() (#61932).

Everything else. Validation rule builders now cover the remaining built-in rules (#61833). Schema::getColumn() becomes case-insensitive, JSON path updates are no longer lost after reading an attribute accessor, increment and decrement no longer skip casts on extra attributes, and Notification::locale() stops leaking into later notifications (#61904, #61959). One entry, "Prevent escaping from bypassing protection" (#61755), is listed without further detail in the release notes; anyone who wants to know what it protects should read the pull request itself rather than the one-line title.

The release notes announce no breaking changes for the 13.x line; most of the entries are bug fixes in queue, Redis and Eloquent code paths.
